Tradition meets modernity

Over the next few days, tradition meets modernity 14 times in impressive ways: when Othello is interpreted by a black woman, church music meets ragtime or typography meets knitting.

Questioning role models

Sona Jobarteh tritt als Griot auf: eine in Westafrika hochangesehene Form des Geschichtenerzählens, die eigentlich Männern vorbehalten ist. Doch mit ihrer Virtuosität durchbricht sie dieses Rollenbild. Auch Ntando Cele hinterfragt klassische Rollenbilder, indem sie Othello, eine Figur, die meist von weissen Schauspielern verkörpert wird, als Schwarze Künstlerin und an der Schnittstelle von Performance, Stand-up Comedy, Tanz und Konzert inszeniert. Schlussendlich widmet sich das Stück «Sei kein Mann» im Theater Casino in Zug und im Theater am Gleis in Winterthur dem «Mannsein» oder eben «Kein-Mannsein».
