October 31,
2-6pm LETZTE CHANCE exhibition open, 6-8pm Fade out human mimicry night: Farewell to “Extra-Worlding” with artists from the Protozone4 & Shedhalle team.
The exhibition format “Protozone” of the Shedhalle shows process-based art in phases of high and low intensity (Hi / Lo-Intensity-Phases). The current Protozone4 Extra Worlding explores artistic practices of “worlding”, which means “making worlds” or “building worlds”.
The participating artists are strongly influenced by science fiction ideas. They use digital technologies or change bodies and spaces in order to create access to a multitude of worlds and to explore their possibilities. Extra Worlding invites visitors to immerse themselves in and experience these worlds.
Extra Worlding also explores the material foundations of contemporary digital technologies that are often involved in “worlding”. After all, digital technologies do not really consist of “clouds”, but rather depend on server farms and resources such as rare earths, electricity and human labor.
Can worlding experiences encourage us to create the worlds we want to live in? And can they strengthen our resistance to worlds in which we do not want to participate?

14-18h: LAST CHANCE Exhibition open, 6-8pm: Fade out human mimicry night - Farewell to “Extra-Worlding” with artists of Protozone4 & Shedhalle Team
Shedhalle's exhibition format “Protozone” focuses on process-based art through Hi and Lo-Intensity phases. The new Protozone4 Extra Worlding explores artistic practices of worlding, a term used to describe the building or making of worlds.
The participating artists are strongly influenced by science fiction ideas. They use digital technologies or alter bodies and spaces to access a variety of worlds and explore their possibilities. Extra Worlding invites visitors to dive into and explore these worlds with their own bodies.
This Protozone also explores the materiality of contemporary digital technologies that are often involved in the process of worlding. After all, digital technologies do not really consist of “Clouds” but rather rely on server farms as well as resources like rare earths, electricity and human labor.
Can worlding-experiences open up new perspectives on what kind of worlds we want to live in? And can they strengthen our resistance against worlds we don't want to be part of?
