Beyond the Maps: The Stories Behind the Exhibition

Every exhibition has a story of its own. But how does it begin? What inspires the selection of objects, shapes the narrative, and brings an exhibition to life?

Join the curators Helen Sunderland-Cohen and Jost Schmid-Lanter for a fascinating look behind the scenes of “Fantastical Maps From Legendary Stories”. In this special conversation, they will reveal how the exhibition took shape, share the ideas and discoveries that guided their choices, and uncover some of the remarkable stories behind the maps and exhibition objects on display.

At the heart of the exhibition lies a unique synthesis between the private collection Ex Carta and the Maps and Panoramas Department of the Zentralbibliothek Zürich. The curators will offer personal insights into this collaboration, exploring how different perspectives, collections, and areas of expertise came together to create an exhibition that invites visitors to see maps in a new light.

Whether you have already explored the exhibition or not, this talk offers a wonderful opportunity to discover the thinking, research, and unexpected connections behind it.

Join us at the Collab Space of the Zentralbibliothek Zürich for an inspiring conversation about maps, stories, and the art of bringing an exhibition to life.

We look forward to welcoming you!  The event will be held in English.
