Bhakti Vashya
An Ode To The Universal Mother
Bhakti Vashya is a continuous, uninterrupted Bharatanatyam presentation tracing the arc of devotion — from invocation and surrender, through questioning and reckoning, to ultimate transcendence.
Opening with an Alarippu and a verse from the Soundarya Lahiri, the performance establishes a contemplative devotional space rooted in the relationship between the Divine Feminine and the cosmos. This gives way to Syama Sastri’s Raave Himagiri Kumari, an intimate invocation of Goddess Kamakshi, followed by Papanasam Sivan’s Naan Oru Vilayattu Bommaiya, where the devotee confronts the Divine Mother with raw vulnerability, questioning suffering and divine will.
The fierce grace of Goddess Kali enters next, dissolving ego and fear in her transformative presence. The presentation concludes with a Svaravali by Prof. C. V. Chandrasekhar, abstracted into pure rhythm and melody, where form dissolves into experience.
Bhakti Vashya presents Bhakti as a living dialogue between devotion, surrender, doubt, and transcendence — between the mortal and the infinite.
The evening will start with an opening performance by the talented Shebana Devi Mangold, which will be followed by Renjith & Vijna’s Bhakti Vashya.
